Step-by-Step

OPRA Exam Process

Follow these six steps to go from your overseas pharmacy qualification to becoming a fully registered pharmacist in Australia.

1

APC Eligibility Check

Submit your qualifications to the Australian Pharmacy Council for an eligibility assessment. The APC determines if your overseas degree is comparable to an Australian pharmacy qualification.

2

Register for OPRA Exam

Once deemed eligible, register for the OPRA Exam through the APC portal and schedule your exam via Pearson VUE. Pay the AUD $2,245 examination fee at the time of booking.

3

Sit the Examination

Attend your scheduled OPRA Exam at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam consists of 120 MCQs over 2.5 hours, testing clinical therapeutics, pharmacy practice, and Australian guidelines.

4

Receive Results

Results are typically released within 4–6 weeks after the exam. You will receive a pass or fail outcome. Candidates who pass proceed to the internship phase.

5

Internship & Registration

After passing the OPRA Exam, complete a supervised internship (typically 1,824 hours) at an accredited Australian pharmacy. This provides practical experience in the Australian healthcare system.

6

Become a Registered Pharmacist

Upon successful completion of internship and assessment requirements, apply to the Pharmacy Board of Australia (AHPRA) for full general registration as a pharmacist in Australia.
